A Look Back on 2020
wow… what a year eh?!
No one could have predicted a year like 2020. We were all faced with a massive social challenge and our political lifestyles shot through the roof. There has been so much pain + trouble but we cannot ignore the glimmers of peace and hope we experienced as well. 2020 was not the type of year that I’d love to live through again but I cannot say it was all terrible.
JANUARY
Oh January. We had so much hope and light for the new year. I spent the month diving into new projects and new ideas. I officially broke ground on Movena Journal this month and that was such an amazing way to start off the new year.
FEBRUARY
February was a month that I remember having a lot of personal darkness but I did everything I could to push through it and find the light. I went on so many walks and park days with Forrest and I bought a lot, I mean a lotttt of Trader Joes flowers.
MARCH
And March.. The month our world officially turned upside now. Before much happened from Covid, I spontaneously decided to chop all of my hair off. A week later, Memphis went into lockdown.
APRIL
April was actually my favorite month of the year. Dylan got to take a few weeks off work before being deemed essential and those two weeks were filled with lots of adventures at the house. It was beautiful and colorful month.
MAY
My April high followed suit in May and I had such a great time making the most of quarantine. I was building furniture, picking wild flowers. making lots of margaritas and continued making Movena issues.
JUNE
A very heavy month, right from the start. I felt like the world had fallen asleep in isolation and then we all woke up. We woke up in fear, panic, and hurt. We spent the month glued to our phones and chatting with loved ones.
And on the other end of the spectrum, we toured the house we now call home.
JULY
July was a roller coaster. My friends came to visit once more before we moved, then we had our family come and they helped us pack our whole life into uhaul and helped us move into our first home. We got started on home projects literally our first day.
AUGUST
My bestfriend had her babyshower back in Illinois and that was a highlight of August for me. It’s so hard being so far away during such incredible moments like your friend becoming pregnant and missing out on most of those milestones. But I’m just so incredibly thankful that I still live within driving distance.
SEPTEMBER
Dylan and I celebrated our one year anniversary! We had such an incredible day exploring our new city and trying tons of new things together. We also went camping (first time going together and bringing Forrest!)
OCTOBER
October was very relaxed. We spent most of the month working on house projects, then traveled to Illinois for my dad’s birthday and ended it with a great fright night at some Halloween attractions with Dylan’s parents.
NOVEMBER
Another great month. I turned 28 and had my family in town for my birthday and that was a treat in itself. My friends came to stay and we had a crazy weekend full of horse-riding, dancing and lots of alcohol. And then Dylan and I got to host our very first holiday and I absolutely loved being able to build our own traditions.
DECEMBER
And now we’re here, December. We got even further into our home projects, my parents spontaneously came to visit and of course, Christmas. Overall, the month felt calm although most of the month was me scrambling to get things together. But it was a great end to 2020.
