Thanksgiving Traditions

I’m big on traditions.

I absolutely love creating memories and the feeling of anticipation of something. Thanksgiving holds one of my favorite pastimes because it’s the first holiday Dylan and I ever hosted together and it’s been a time that we both really lean into family and creating new traditions together.

Every year for Thanksgiving, we host our families. We cook a full on traditional Thanksgiving meal (our menu is below). While the turkey roasts away, we partake in our annual Haskins House Shootout which is when we take a pumpkin, draw a target on it, set it up in the garden, and use Dylans childhood Red Rider BB Gun and compete in a shootout. It’s a funky way of sending autumn away to make room for winter, shooting out the pumpkins.

After dinner, we save all of the leftovers to make my favorite Thanksgiving Leftover Pie the next day. It sounds bizarre but its SO good and it’s by far the best way to use up the leftovers. Recipe is below!

Take a look through this years Thanksgiving festivities!

Thanksgiving Leftover Pie:

You will not be disappointed. Be sure to use a homemade crust, follow the layer directions and use plenty of egg wash on the crust!! YUM.

And now on to Christmas!

We always end our Thanksgiving weekend with a jumpstart into Christmas. On Friday, we head out to Priddy Farms to pick out a Christmas tree! We spend the day pulling down the fall decor and bringing out all of the tubs of Christmas. Mom brought some warm mulled wine this year and we brought that along to the Christmas Tree Farm! So much fun.
