Forrest’s First Birthday + a Cake Recipe for Pups!

It’s our baby boys first birthday and words cannot express the love I have for this feisty boy. When we got him, we drove down to Mississippi in the middle of literally no where and picked out this 3 month old boy. We got home late at night and Dylan had to head straight to bed and go to work in the morning. The next day was such bliss. This tiny little puppy finding his way around our home and already testing the cat’s patience.

I quickly learned just how much attention and care a Malinois requires.. The next few months were hell.. I’m not going to sugarcoat it. I had so many nights full of tears from stress and a lack of sleep. We had to put training and exercise as the number one priority in our household to make sure this boy grew up respectful and obedient. It was a total lifestyle flip for me.

But here we are, almost a year later and it seems like everything has changed. He’s grown up both mentally and of course physically. He’s protected me, he’s made me laugh to the point of tears, he’s taught me patience, and he’s got me to become more physically active than ever before.

For his first birthday, we started the day out with a morning run at his favorite park. Shelby Farms is a massive off leash park with 5 lakes! So he swam, ran, and chased tons of balls. We then went to Hollywood Feed to pick out some new toys and chew sticks. Once we got home, we baked a yummy cake for him (recipe below!) and even baked some human treats as well. We then ended the day off with more running around and then a long cuddle session on the couch.

I love you so much Bubby. I hope you had the best birthday ever.
