My First Curiosity Jar

So last fall, I read a book called Weyward by Emilia Hart. It was an intriguing and heavy book about 3 generations of green witches. I became obsessed with the way they would adorn their quaint cottage with nature. It spoke to me so much. So I’ve been on a kick of viewing nature as God’s decor all around us and what a thing to search and preserve for things I can use in our home too.

You’ll notice it’s a big theme in my posts this year.

Well anyways, last fall I also happened to find two bees in the backyard already dead. I stored them in a plastic cup for months and finally got around to doing something with them.

They are quite small so I knew I’d have to do something on a smaller scale. I found the little glass jar at Hobby Lobby for $3 and the rest was all sourced in our own backyard!

It goes perfectly on our mantle with our preserved and mounted Pirhana (from an estate sale) and our preserved gator head (from an antique store).

What I used:

  • Small Glass Jar

  • Dried bees

  • Moss from a log out back

  • Dried/Dead flower heads

  • Super Glue

  • Tweezers

Rather self-explanitory but I started with placing the floral pieces and dry-fitting with the glass top before gluing them down. I then glued down the moss and placed the bees with the tweezers. Then I glued the glass top in place.
